Have you been always putting off learning brioche? Would you like to try it, but would like some support?
Challenge 1 – Two colour brioche in the round Tempestas begins with bands of two colour bricohe interspersed with squishy garter. It’s a great way to get you started in the world of brioche. Want to give it a try? There’s full video instruction, and I have just recorded a new quick video tutorial for how to handle your yarns at the end of each round, so you’ll have this perfected in time for your next challenge.
Challenge 2 – Challenge 2 – Learn one new brioche increase, and two brioche decreases
The final section of Tempestas introduces you to a brioche increase and two brioche decreases. Again, fear not! There are full video instructions for each of these in the pattern, and you won’t be alone! Want to knit this with others? Join the KAL!
Tempestas KAL – March 11 to 19th Yes! Join the Tempestas KAL and knit this with others. Join me on March 11th at noon (EST) to cast on your Tempestas as I go LIVE via Zoom. Joining me will be the Tempestry Project team, together with the most loved moderator, Viv Crestfield. We’ll be chatting all things brioche and climate change, so have your questions ready.
YARN KITS
Tempestas is knit using Tempestry’s own Worsted US sourced merino wool, that is milled and dyed in Pennsylvania exclusively for The Tempestry Project.
There are several colourful temperature kits to choose from. The Tempestry team have created four temperature zones colours combinations to pick from for this cowl. These represent different temperature zones from around the world, from the cool Polar Zone to the Temperate Zone to the warm Equatorial Zone, as well as the New Normal temperatures from the 1950’s to the noughties!

Tapestry/Darning needle

GAUGE
15 sts x 20 rnds = 10cm x 10cm (4”x 4”) in two colour brioche worked in the round after blocking.
Tip: Please swatch in MC and CC6. An extra 8g of MC and CC6 has been included in the yarn requirements for those yarns.
Construction Notes:
Tempestas is worked in one piece, from the top down. Hidden increases in the garter sections allow for the shaping without using Brioche sts for the increases. The final section welcomes you into the brioche world of increases and decreases.
Full video instruction for two colour brioche, fixing brioche errors (links under Techniques on page 3) and each of the brioche increase, and decreases stitches is included in this pattern (links under Brioche Abbreviations on page 3).
The final brioche section is charted on page 6.
Finally, the cowl is finished with an elastic bind off.
